I've long been interested in the apparent cyclical asymmetry in business fluctuations. So it's nice to see Paul Krugman publicize the issue here: On the Asymmetry of Booms and Slumps. His post, in turn, was motivated this one, by Antonio Fatas: Four Missing Ingredients in Macroeconomic Models. The business cycle is not symmetric. Not only this is a wrong representation of economic shocks but it also leads to the perception that stabilization policy cannot do much. Interestingly, it was Milton Friedman who put forward the "plucking" model of business cycles as an alternative to the notion that fluctuations are symmetric. In Friedman's model output can only be below potential or maximum. If we were to rely on asymmetric models of the business cycle, our views on potential output and the natural rate of unemployment would be radically different. Let me dissect the passage above. "The business cycle is not symmetric. Here's a few snapshots of Christmas at the Williams' house. I thought you'd like to see how we celebrate Christmas!A celebration of family traditionsEvery year the kids and I make a Christmas village. I grew up with a cardboard village we put up at Christmas time, so it's a tradition for me - and fun for them. The kids and I go to the local nursery and pick out the most beautiful tree, Steve helps us put it up, and we decorate it together. What's really special about our tree is that every decoration has a memory attached. Some are from my family home. One way of looking at the Bible and how to understand it is called Dispensationalism. A dispensation is a way of handling something or someone, the method of management. Dispensationalism is based on the belief that God deals with different people throughout history in different ways. It is pure doctrinal in its import. You see, every verse in the Bible applies to you spiritually and practically.

There is always a spiritual application which great preachers and Bible translators like William Tyndale claimed were in every verse.

Dispensationalism is about doctrine, the way things are done, and isn’t about a spiritual or practical application of every verse to the Christian. This was a sort of cut-back week. By which I mean that I took an extra rest day, but didn't otherwise reduce mileage or intensity. Deja vu all over again. As for why I took Wednesday off? See pic. No, nothing unexpected. I just love how she took a spring set and made it Fall. I also love that Lawn Trimmings bow and Dodz are perfect to hold gems! Melissa S.

First, Chris Brown appears to have a tattoo of a battered woman's face on his neck, at a visible point. Is this to serve as a warning signal in cultural exchanges or what? Is it a sign of remorse? Or an angry challenge? Or what? And do we care? Second, here's a lovely body decoration demonstrated by a male spider in Australia while he woos his sweetheart. The decoration clearly has a social role in that case. I put these two topics together for no other reason than happenstance. Make of that what you wish. Bob Altchiler is the founder and principal of Altchiler, LLC, and an adjunct faculty member in the trial advocacy program at Pace Law School. In the blog post below, he shares his memorable first-day introduction to trial advocacy. Something tells me students have a great time in Professor Altchiler's Advocacy Abattoir/Trial Advocacy Course. I tried something new in my advocacy class this past semester. I walked into the courtroom, where my class was waiting for me. Before saying a word, with my class in the jury box, I handed to each of them a bloody body part, or an x-ray of a body part. Then I left. He is charged with aggravated burglary. ". While I find them invaluable, I'm not so fond of the bright colors. I have three words for you: Metallic Spray Paint. All in all it's a pretty cheap project that really packs a big punch!. Tonight I made dinner pretty late. and I had a big Indian buffet lunch with my awesome friend Jen-Jen-The-Witch's-Hen. so I was in the mood for something light. I tried to remember an old recipe of my mom's. It's a salad with kidney beans, cukes, cilantro, green bell pepper, and corn. I cooked up a fresh corn cob. I love how Pat has her butterflies going in various directions…. I told my husband I was going to make him a summer read book list. Don't worry, I'll be reading them too! It helps if we're both like minded and both inspired by the same things. The viewing area for the northern aurora will stretch to lower latitudes tonight and tomorrow because of recent solar activity: On Tuesday, the first solar flare of the year erupted from the sun. This huge flare blew out from a sunspot seven times the size of the Earth. Since Tuesday, super-charged solar particles have been hurtling toward Earth. And if the particles are strong enough those Northern Lights can be seen further south in the United States. I was delighted when reading about this to discover that there is a website for monitoring aurora activity. S. An extremely good turn out for the Walsingham Cell meeting today. We started with Mass which was followed by an engaging talk from Anna Arco of the Catholic Herald. The talk was followed by a delicious supper lovingly prepared by Janice and her team. An enjoyable evening indeed!. "That's cruel. " Caught by the neighbor. "Not really. There is nothing in this world safer than a velociraptor I'm chunking a rock at. " It's a fact.

Nobody stands behind me in horseshoes without a helmet.

I don't always let go in time. Obviously, the prisoners who benefit from staff corruption are the few who either have real money or the ability to facilitate these staff activities in some way. A quid pro quo is the bedrock of these relationships. The nature of the corrupt benefits, the "favours" given or taken are more varied according to the nature of the prison. In Closed prisons, for example, where it can be very difficult to transport illegal items into the prison, then staff involvement in the provision of mobile phones and drugs will be the most significant aspect of corrupt activity. In Open prison, where the perimeter is no barrier, then this activity would be superfluous. The details of corruption, then, differ greatly within the prison estate. Obviously, given my present circumstances, my focus is upon Open prison. WHEN PEOPLE ASK ME how to write a best-seller, I usually point them at E. This book deals with the two subjects I know best, boats and newspapers. Here’s what I learned from E. Here are some examples that E. I have an abundance of sun in the front of the yard and though the lilies thrived there two years ago I had a gardener-I now have none. I had envisioned rows and rows-masses-of different lilies. I wish I could say this was a before and after- but this little bear, Kelsey was beyond repair when he made his way into the studio. A curious pup with good taste snatched him off a shelf and had a hay day. I would have been able to just replace his head and stitch up his arm, but he was made from hand dyed mohair and I didn't have any more of that dye lot left. Transgender activists say we should call people what they call themselves. Refusing to do so is disrespectful. An example would be "Caitlyn" Jenner. To continue to call "her" Bruce is bigoted. Channelling Frida Kahlo. DisneyRollerGirl These pics remind me of club kids in NYC back in the day, when I was an early homesteader to the meat-packing district, hanging with Connie and Billy Metz. Billy was an opinionated Queen but with great taste who grew up in Clark NJ, and someone who was always embroiled in a feud with a friend. Seldom has an appliance been so long wished for, eagerly awaited and then put to use repeatedly over days and weeks as this machine! It. is. fantastic! Especially for the making of nut anything. The texture it produces just can’t be beat. Incidentally, the personal blender did much better than any full size blender, in case you're wondering! Just as an example: I was able to make perfectly fine cashew milk in my personal blender. It took a lot longer and I had to do it over and over to incorporate most of the soaked cashews, but I got there. I mentioned this book in an earlier post, before I had even ordered it. Now that I've read it, it has to rank as one of my all-time favorite motorcycle books. He engendered loyalty among his friends, and an incredulous admiration of his enemies. He was a real nut-job, just the sort of guy who would strip down to his swimming trunks to squeeze an extra mile per hour on his speed attempt, regardless of the highly abrasive salt bed just below his wheels. The book is stuffed with fascinating photos of a well-documented life. When Indian no longer developed motorcycles capable of trouncing Harleys, he turned to Vincents as the next likely candidate. I've been dropping knowledge from Proust and the Squid in just about every conversation for the last week or so, and using the research and questions to drive my lesson planning. Dialogue, on the other hand, requires memorization and analysis of all hitherto cultural knowledge, and leaves ideas up for challenge and revision. She also points out that Plato, all the while, is putting Socrates's dialogues to writing. He had a better guess at what might be possible with the written word. Socrates didn't live long enough to see writing past its infancy. .
